A UNIQUE CHURCH
St Edmund's is an unusual church in many ways. Local school children have called it 'The Castle'.
The central broad tower used to have a light within, which could be lit at night time like a lantern in the darkness.
Inside the church masonic imagery can be found throughout the building, and the vine worked in stone behind the altar is alone worth a visit.

Sir Clement Royds
Clement, later Sir Clement Royds was a banker and businessman (he was a director of the British railway company which named an engine after him), and later wrote a book "The Pedigree of the Family of Royds" which was published privately in 1910. He lived in Rochdale,Lancashire, where his ancestors had built their fortune in the wool trade in the latter half of the 18th Century and which they then used to found a bank. He did not settle in the US, and his descendants remained in the UK.
